About Us

Manchester Community Transport Ltd. was established in 1982 through Urban Aid Funding to provide accessible transport solutions to the local community.

There have been many changes since we started, to both the needs of the community and the way that Community Transport is fulfilled. We are proud to have served our communities, adapted to the needs of the market and made a difference for 30 years.

As proud as we are of our heritage, we are always looking to the future. Today, this is the true key to success for any business – being able to predict trends and anticipate change. Over the last 30 years, we’ve seen the transition of the third sector from our reliance on grants to driving standards of business and broadening our commercial offerings. This is where we have excelled, keeping true to our non-profit community values but running as efficiently and effectively as our commercial counterparts.

Our belief is simple: without appropriate and reliable transport our communities can’t grow and develop.

This belief drives our strategy to support the development of new opportunities and identify and meet user need. The transportation market is like any specialist market, in tough times the focus for competition hones to one primary factor – price. This is another area that Manchester Community Transport differs from other providers, we won’t offer below our minimum standard of quality.

We commit to fair and transparent pricing for funders, we don’t increase profit margins to pay dividends – because we don’t have them. Manchester Community Transport is a non-profit organisation that reinvests it’s surplus in services for our communities. Equally, we don’t cut corners to offer an unrealistic price. We guarantee to never tender for or offer a service which we cannot sustainably deliver to a safe and reliable standard.

Our delivery may have started as community group travel, but the needs of our customers have grown and so have we.

Manchester Community Transport continues to offer this invaluable service along with door-to-door demand responsive services such as Local Link and bus services.

Beyond that, we work with our partners to develop and deliver specialised services including:

  • NHS Pilots for patient transfer and visitor accessibility
  • Shuttle Services to connect people to remote and poorly connected employment centres
  • Connection Services linking people from poorly connected communities to major transport hubs
  • Health and Well Being services such as First Stop (mobile smoking cessation and health check-ups)
  • Pathways to Employment – a development routeway for volunteers to develop the skills, qualifications and experience to secure sustainable employment in transport
Manchester Community Transport is what it is today because of its people. This is not lost on us, we value our people and listen to them every day. Whether it’s our membership, regular (and new) customers, our employees or volunteers, we have access to a broad and knowledgeable community. A community that provides us with a ground level business intelligence that can truly make a difference. This knowledge is invaluable if we aim to meet the needs of our communities; it can help us shape the future of needs based transport.
